Fat is stored in the body as triglycerides. These are composed of three
molecules of fatty acids attached to a glycerol molecule. Triglycerides
are stored in cells called adipocytes which, in turn are grouped
together to form adipose tissue. This adipose tissue is what we know
of as 'fat'. Lipolysis comes from the Greek "lipo" which signifies fat
and "lysis" which signifies dissolution. Lipolysis represents the use of
fat as a source of energy in metabolic processes. In lipolysis,
triglycerides are broken down to their constituent fatty acids and
glycerol. You literally 'burn' fat by increasing your body's heat
production through a process called thermogenesis. This is, in effect, a
raising of your body's core temperature. This occurs naturally,
especially after a meal. Some foods and herbs can actually promote

Ma huang (Ephedra) has been used in China for more than 5,000
